Our founders were photographers and videographers themselves who struggled to find gear that met their needs without breaking the bank. They realized that for the art of photography and filmmaking to thrive, the tools needed to be within reach.
So they set out to create their own brand that delivered exceptional functionality and reliability at a reasonable price point. And with that, Fovitec® was born.

And our entire team is comprised of creators ourselves who never forget our responsibility to serve the community that shaped us.
Our Story
Fovitec® was dreamt up in a small Los Angeles apartment in 2012. Our founders, Jack and Diane, had met in film school years prior and bonded over a shared frustration – as budding filmmakers, the costs of pro gear prevented them from fully pursuing their passion. After graduating, they found themselves in mountains of debt and still shooting videos and short films with entry-level equipment.
So they decided to take matters into their own hands. Their goal was simple – deliver filmmaking gear that had the quality of high-end brands at a price an aspiring filmmaker could realistically afford.
With their combined expertise in videography and electronics, Jack and Diane started designing their own products. They maxed out credit cards to finance initial prototypes and use their own apartments as the first Fovitec headquarters for testing.
The first Fovitec® product was a studio light aimed to rival models from top brands that retailed for 10x the price. It took over a year to develop with the two founders doing all the design, engineering, sourcing, and assembly themselves.
In 2013, the Fovitec® Stud10 studio light launched. Priced at just $120, it delivered power and performance photographers expected from lights costing upwards of $1000. Word spread quickly and units started flying off the shelves.
Fovitec® was off and running. Over the next few years, more affordable lights were released as well as backdrops, stands, and accessories. The product line continued to expand while staying true to the mission – deliver pro quality gear at non-pro prices.
To keep up with demand, Jack and Diane brought on a few of their filmmaker friends and moved operations out of their apartment into a small warehouse. While still modest, this allowed them to scale manufacturing and fulfill orders with quicker turnaround times.
In 2016, a major milestone was hit – Fovitec® shipped over 10,000 units in a single month. What started as two creators’ DIY solution had grown into a thriving brand serving customers around the world.
Since these early days, Fovitec® has continued to grow while staying committed to our core values. Jack and Diane still lead the company today and remain heavily involved in product development and strategic vision.
Some key moments over the past few years:
- 2017 – Launched our first LED panels and on-camera lights, opening up the world of video production.
- 2018 – Introduced softboxes, umbrellas, and light shaping modifiers to enable true studio quality lighting for all.
- 2019 – Expanded our backdrop offering with canvas, muslin, and green screen options for every scenario.
- 2020 – Released our proprietary Fovitec ConnectTM wireless control system allowing seamless remote control of all lights.
- 2021 – Opened our new 30,000 square foot headquarters to keep pace with customer demand and continue innovating.
While we take pride in how far we’ve come, our focus remains on the future. The photography and videography landscape will keep evolving, and Fovitec® will evolve along with it. We will never stop listening to creators’ needs and striving to empower them with affordable, exceptional tools.

Our Team
Fovitec® is driven by a team of passionate creators, photographers, videographers, engineers, and designers. While we’ve grown over the years, we still maintain a small company ethos and family-like culture. Meet a few of the team members who make Fovitec® happen:
Jack, CEO and Co-Founder
Jack is the heart and soul of Fovitec®. His shared frustration trying to pursue filmmaking with entry-level gear inspired him to launch the company. While no longer building products with his own hands, Jack remains heavily involved in product development and company vision. He prides himself on maintaining open communication with customers and overseeing quality control.
Diane, President and Co-founder
Diane’s electronics expertise brought the initial Fovitec® prototypes to life. She oversees sourcing, supply chain, and manufacturing ensuring efficiency and quality are never compromised. Diane has an analytical mind for process improvement and keeps operations running smoothly as the company has scaled.
Adrian, Lead Design Engineer
Adrian joined the team in 2014 bringing over 15 years of hardware engineering experience. He leads the design of all Fovitec® gear, collaborating closely with Diane and Jack to match functionality with affordability. Adrian holds over a dozen patents and loves the challenge of innovating new solutions.
Maya, eCommerce Marketing Manager
Our branding, social media, and content falls under Maya’s purview. She works closely with Jack on positioning Fovitec® as accessible while still delivering elite quality. Maya has been key to raising brand awareness and leveraging community to drive organic growth.
Felix, Customer Support Lead
Felix heads up our California based support team who are available 7 days a week for orders, returns, or any product or purchasing issues. No robot chat bots here! Felix believes providing personalized service is key to retaining loyal Fovitec® customers.
In addition to the leadership team, we have over 40 dedicated team members including electrical engineers, industrial designers, photographers, videographers, content creators, and support staff.
While our roles vary greatly, we all share a common mission – deliver exceptional gear at honest prices so more creators can pursue their passion.

We’ve come a long way in a few short years, but our journey has just started. Fovitec® has ambitious plans to empower more creators worldwide:

We started with studio lighting and have since expanded into backdrops, stands, power, and more. But there are still gaps and opportunities to better serve one-stop shop needs. Video accessories, drones, sliders, lenses, and audio equipment are all under exploration.
Ongoing innovation
Of course, we will relentlessly keep making our existing product portfolio even better – more portable lights, efficient power options, durable backdrops, and effortless control. And we will continue to pioneer completely new gear categories to fill gaps.
Expanded community impact
Look for new contests and mentorship initiatives focused on showcasing up-and-coming creators and connecting them with our pros. More inspiring workshops and educational resources are in the works too.
Going green
We aim to lead by example when it comes to environmental sustainability. From packaging to operations, we are pursuing carbon neutrality and promoting responsible consumption.
A home for creators
Our LA headquarters will soon open its doors to become a hub and creative co-working space for local creators. Come collaborate, attend workshops, use our production studios and co-create the future of the industry.
Through it all, we will stay true to our roots – serving creators by making professional quality equipment attainable. Jack and Diane bootstrapped Fovitec® from their apartment and we maintain a startup ethos and hunger even at our current size.
